Margot Salomon, London School of Economics and Political Science: Radical Rights
Welcome to a lecture with Margot Salomon, Associate Professor of International Law and Human Rights in the Law School at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Title of the lecture: Radical Rights
Constructive reorientations are emerging in the interpretation of economic, social, and cultural rights. This turn reflects a departure from extractivist logics, resource privatization, and assumptions of unlimited growth, and an increasing alignment with fourth world perspectives on sustainability, principles of economic democracy, and other reconfigurative rationalities. With this lecture we’ll explore how the international human rights juridical framework rooted in capitalism and its economic imperatives is yielding to radical rights, and what this ideational shift must entail for human rights to be transformative.
