Welcome to the Faculty of Law!
Established in
1666, the Faculty of Law is one of the four original faculties of Lund University. The Faculty has established student exchange programmes with a large
number of universities worldwide. All the courses offered to international
students are taught in English. Some 200 of the 2,000 students at the Faculty
are international students from all over the world. This provides a genuine
international atmosphere.
For exchange
students the Faculty of Law offers a wide range of courses dealing with
international aspects of law at Master’s level and master’s programmes: Master
in International Human Rights Law, in cooperation with the Raoul Wallenberg
Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and European Business Law. Please
visit www.jur.lu.se/english for further information.
At the Faculty of
Law, research is performed in all the central areas of law. It has over 60
teachers, including 20 full professors. The main objective of the Faculty of
Law is to run the Swedish professional degree programme for the legal
professions, leading to the degree of Master of Laws (LL.M.) after 4.5 years of
study. The education consists of both theoretical and practical elements and is
based on the Faculty’s research traditions combined with close links to the
legal community in Sweden.
The premises of the
Faculty, with modern lecture halls and group rooms, are placed in the middle of
the historic centre of Lund, just a few steps from the Cathedral. Obvious
meeting points are the café and the library, the largest in Scandinavia for
legal literature, with a number of study places for individual studies. Both
the library and the café are open every day of the week.
The centrally
situated Faculty gives the law students easy access to the intensive student
life which circles around Lund’s medieval city core, with its cosy cafés and
shops, as well as the central station, from where the local trains take you to Copenhagen – the capital of Denmark – in less than an hour.
